This Blog is about how to avoid mistakes during soap making for beginners. There are five mistakes which we usually do while making soap. They are

B) ADDITION OF FOOD COLOURS

C) ADDITION OF PERFUMES OR FRAGRANCE

D) USAGE OF COCONUT OIL

E) FRUIT PUREES

A) CUP MEASUREMENTS:

In the case of Weight measurement in soap making, it indicates the quantity in grams and not in liters. For example: 1 liter of coconut oil is not equal to 1 kg of coconut oil. For more details regarding this, watch the video titled “Cup Measurement don’t work”. If you are using cup measurements for soap making kindly stop using this methodology.

B) ADDITION OF FOOD COLORS:

Food colors should be used only for foods as they suit only for the skin inside the mouth whereas it doesn’t suit for face and hand. It causes allergies. So stop using food colors. There are separate colors used for soap making. Natural clays, mica colors and pigments are specially available for soap. Natural clays and mica colors are quite expensive. Pigments are cost effective and suitable for soaps.

C) ADDTION OF PERFUMES OR FRAGRANCE:

Two types of fragrances are available. One type is used for washing purpose which shouldn’t be used for soaps. Second type is used for soaps and it shouldn’t be used in drops because the fragrances will be lost within 10 days. Normally we have to use only 3% of fragrances according to the oil weight. Example for 1 kg of oil we have to use 30 g of fragrances. Note: quantity is in kilogram].

D) USAGE OF COCONUT OIL:

Coconut oil is used for cleansing and removes dirt from the skin. This inherent property is suitable for washing purpose. So 100% of washing soap can be made out of coconut oil. Whereas for bathing soap, moisture content and tone of the skin has to be maintained. So mixture of oils should be preferred only for bath soap making.

E) FRUIT PUREES:

Grinding of fruits or vegetables and the filtered purees are directly poured in soap making which leads to fungus formation within 30 to 40 days. So such soaps acts as a medium for the growth of micro organism which none of us will prefer. To avoid such problem well dried and sieved fruit powder can be used instead of fruit purees.

Hope this information will be helpful for all the soap manufactures. Yet to provide many tricky ideas in the next write up.
